Dear members,
During the TIAC Town Hall last month we had the chance to learn more about the Arctic Energy Alliance (AEA), a not-for-profit society offering energy-saving programs and services to limit energy consumption and the expenses that come with it; the AEA's programs and services can be of benefit to tourism businesses.
The AEA's programs and services cover:
- Renewable Energy
Includes rebates up to $50,000 (up to $20,000 for non commercial) and free advice; pre-approval is required. Businesses, Community Governments, Non-profit organizations, and Residents are eligible. The following products are all eligible: solar electricity, wood pellet boilers and furnaces, EPA certified wood boilers and furnaces, wind turbines, solar hot water systems, solar air heating systems, in-stream hydro/micro-hydro, electric heating systems. - Building Improvements
Includes rebates up to $50,000 and free advice; pre-approval is recommended. Businesses, Community Governments, and Non-profit organizations are eligible. Almost anything that will save energy is eligible. Common projects include: building envelope upgrades (such as insulation and air sealing), improvements to heating systems and controls, upgrades to lighting and lighting controls, improvements to ventilation systems and controls, upgrades to hot-water systems, installation of low-flow water devices. - Building Energy Audits and Evaluations
Includes desktop energy audits, on-site energy audits and home energy evaluations for residents. Businesses, Community Governments, Non-profit organizations, and Residents (home energy evaluations only) are eligible. - Energy-Efficient Products
Include simple rebates on common products that save energy. Rebate amounts vary by product. Seasonal cabins and off-grid camps are eligible. Businesses, Community Governments, Non-profit organizations and Residents are eligible. The following products are all eligible: ENERGY STAR® certified fridges, freezers, washers and ventless dryers, LED bulbs and tubes, wood and pellet stoves, efficient boilers and furnaces, on-demand water heaters, drain water heat recovery, programmable thermostats, ECM pumps, automated vehicle plug-in controllers, home insulation. - Electric Transportation
Rebates varying by product are covered. Businesses, Community Governments, Non-profit organizations, and Residents are eligible. The following products are all eligible: battery electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, level 2 charging stations for homes, E-bikes, electric ATVs, electric snowmobiles, electric boat motors.
