PRESS RELEASE
Yellowknife, NT -- Northwest Territories Tourism (NWTT) - in partnership with the Government of the Northwest Territories - is launching a campaign to encourage NWT residents to invite their friends and family to the Spectacular NWT. The campaign will centre around an online contest offered exclusively to NWT residents where they can enter to win a $5,000 trip into the territory for their friends and family.
“It’s been a long 23 months for our local residents and businesses while the territory has restricted leisure travel,” explains Donna Lee Demarcke, NWT Tourism’s Chief Executive Officer.
“Our hope is that this campaign will remind us all that we live in one of the most beautiful places on Earth and get us excited to welcome back visitors - starting with our friends and family.”
Launching on April 4th, the “You’re Invited to Share the Spectacular NWT” campaign will feature digital and printed postcard invitations that residents can send to their friends and family across the country. Physical postcards will be sent to all NWT mailboxes and digital postcards can be created via the website. As residents extend the invitation via the online contest page, a digital map will highlight all the cities and towns across Canada that have received an invitation.
Additionally, residents will be encouraged to use the #SpectacularNWT hashtag to tag and highlight their postcard invitations and their own special photos celebrating the territory.
“Among many other things, a strong tourism industry creates jobs, allows for increased flight routes, and drives infrastructure projects,” says Demarcke. “It fuels existing and potentially new restaurants, hotels, retail stores and many other complementary businesses throughout the territory.
“Tourism is one of the few, if not the only, industry that has the potential to be present and to be an economic driver in all 33 of our communities across the NWT. It has the ability to give our residents meaningful work right in their own community and enriches the lives of residents. The NWT has what the world wants - wide open spaces, spectacular landscapes and experiences in authentic Indigineous cultures. The Northwest Territories is home to the stories the world wants to hear,” further explains Demarcke.
The “You’re Invited to Share the Spectacular NWT” competition/campaign runs from April 4th to May 2nd, with the winner announced on May 6th, 2022. A press release on April 4th will highlight the website and the various ways to enter.
