NWT Tourism is delighted to announce the recipients of the NWT Tourism 2020 Scholarships.
Mr. Brent Villeneuve is completing a Bachelor of Tourism Management at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops and is entering his third year this fall. Combining his passion for environmental issues and his interest in working in the tourism industry, Mr. Villeneuve intends to return to the community of Fort Simpson and pursue a career in eco-tourism. He sees himself as being part of the growing tourism industry in Fort Simpson and looks forward to contributing by providing authentic and sustainable experiences to visitors.
Ms. Cydney Nahanni-Kwasney is completing a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Calgary. She graduated from high school in Fort Simpson, Northwest Territories and is entering her second year at the Haskayne School of Business. Cydney’s summer work experience includes the handling of customer service and flight following for Simpson Air, a member of NWT Tourism, and delivery of tourism information to tourists visiting the Fort Simpson Visitor Information Centre. This summer she also had the opportunity to work as a summer student for Industry Tourism & Investment. She is actively involved in her community and has taken part in coaching, scorekeeping and refereeing hockey, basketball, and soccer games in Fort Simpson. Cydney looks forward to returning to the NWT upon completion of her program to work in the tourism industry.
Both individuals have exceptionally high academic achievements and we were delighted to present them both with a scholarship of $1500.00 this week.
