NWT Tourism Update

NWT Tourism has been speaking with all the airlines that service the north, as many of you are aware, there are numerous concerns that are affecting the airline industry, and the issues are worldwide.  However, we are being told that things are getting better as more staff come on board, and that we can hope to see things get progressively better in the coming weeks.

In some good news with regards to air travel, in June we had over 40,000 passengers at the Yellowknife airport. This is the first time we have seen this since February 2020! Aircraft movements were also the highest they have been since July 2019!  It is so nice to see air traffic returning to pre – pandemic numbers.

A reminder that our 2022 AGM & Conference is coming up, October 25th – 27th. Please mark your calendar and stay tuned for more information that will be sent out in the coming weeks.

Watch for a member communication coming out next week that will have information regarding the upcoming NWT Tourism Board of Directors elections.

I am also excited to take this opportunity to introduce you to our newest staff member, Lana Bromley. Lana has joined NWT Tourism as our Special Events Coordinator, and will be initially focusing on our own AGM and Conference, you will be hearing from her frequently over the coming months! Lana is a born and raised Yellowknifer who loves to spend time on Great Slave Lake camping, fishing, and exploring. Lana is active in the NWT Basketball Community as a coach, ref, tournament organizer, and player. Lana has two young children, aged 2 and 4, whom she loves to laugh and share new experiences with. Lana has a diploma in Business Administration and started out working with the GNWT and WSCC. In 2013, she moved to the private sector where she spent 8 years working with Creative Basics as a Project Manager. Most recently she joins us from Nahanni Construction where she led a team of Administrators working on projects across Canada. Lana is very excited to join our organization and work for a Territory she is passionate about. Through work, sport, and fun, she has had some opportunity to explore the North but looks forward to many new adventures with the NWTT team and our members.

Please join me in extending a warm welcome to Lana.
