Online Voting Explained
Now we would like to walk you through the online voting process; this is a refresher for those of you who have already been through the process, and for new voting members we hope it is particularly helpful.
We employ a first "First Past the Post" electoral method, meaning that winners are chosen by the greatest number of votes registered per candidate. The three candidates with the greatest number of votes will be elected for a two-year term.
Online Voting Process Step by Step
Step One: Click the link sent to your email
- You will receive an email from BigPulse with the subject line "NWTT Online Election for Board of Directors Election"
- All eligible voters will receive an email from BigPulse on or shortly after 10:00 MT on Wednesday, September 21.
- The email will contain a web link to the voting page.
- Click on the link to begin the voting process.
Step Two: Cast your vote - Select a maximum of three candidates and submit your vote
- On the screen you will see the 6 candidates on the ballot. Beside each name you will see a link to click if you wish to view the candidate statement.
- Choose up to three candidates from the candidate slate.
- Please ensure that if you intend to vote for three candidates, you make all your selections on this ballot before confirming your selection - you will only be able to cast your vote once.
- Once your selections are made, click on "Submit Vote".
Step Three: Confirm your selection - check your selection(s) and click Confirm or Back
- When you click on "Submit Vote" you will see a screen which asks you to check your selections.
- You will also see a check box to "Include the vote receipt number in the email".
- You will also see a check box to "Include my vote selection in the email"
- Once you are certain that the information is correct, click on "confirm".
- When you click on "Confirm" this submits your vote.
Step Four: Comment (optional) and Sign Out
The next screen you will see is a "Thank you for voting" and an opportunity to comment on the voting process if you choose. Commenting is optional. All comments are anonymous and will be sent to NWT Tourism by BigPulse. At this point your vote has been submitted and you can sign out.
Step Five: Receive a Vote Receipt via email
- The online election process automatically generates a vote receipt which provides you with confirmation of your vote.
- This receipt is sent automatically to the email address used to sign in to vote.
- If you ticked the checkbox "Include the vote receipt number in the email" you will see your vote receipt number in the email.
- If you ticked the checkbox: "Include my vote selection in the email" then the candidates that you have selected on the ballot will be listed in the email you receive, confirming your selection.
- The vote receipt email will show all candidates who appeared on the candidate slate and the date and time that your vote was recorded at BigPulse, no matter which check boxes were ticked or left blank.
The order in which the candidates appear to you is determined by Robson Rotation, which is defined below.
Robson Rotation
Robson Rotation is a method of arranging the names of candidates on the ballot in an election. In the BigPulse system, the candidates are rotated upwards by one position for each new person who visits the voting page. The order is remembered for each user and appears constant for each person. Robson Rotation is designed to eliminate any bias that may be introduced by the order in which candidates appear on the ballot.
Please do not hesitate to contact NWT Tourism if you have questions or any issues arise at any point during this process.
